Panasonic last week disclosed a network breach that resulted in a file server reportedly storing potentially sensitive information getting accessed. In a press release issued on November 26, the Japanese electronics giant said it discovered the breach on November 11. Ransomware Operators Threaten to Leak 1.5TB of Supernus Pharmaceuticals Data

Biopharmaceutical company Supernus Pharmaceuticals last week confirmed it fell victim to a ransomware attack that resulted in a large amount of data being exfiltrated from its network. The attack, the Rockville, Maryland-based company says, likely happened in mid-November, when a ransomware group accessed data on certain systems, deployed malware to prevent access to files, and then threatened to leak the exfiltrated files. APT37 targets journalists with Chinotto multi-platform malware

North Korean state hacking group APT37 targets South Korean journalists, defectors, and human rights activists in watering hole, spear-phishing emails, and smishing attacks delivering malware dubbed Chinotto capable of infecting Windows and Android devices. APT37 (aka Reaper) has been active since at least 2012 and is an advanced persistent threat group (APT) linked to the North Korean government with high confidence by FireEye. READ MORE...


IKEA email systems hit by ongoing cyberattack

IKEA is battling an ongoing cyberattack where threat actors are targeting employees in internal phishing attacks using stolen reply-chain emails. A reply-chain email attack is when threat actors steal legitimate corporate email and then reply to them with links to malicious documents that install malware on recipients' devices. Marine services provider Swire Pacific Offshore hit by ransomware

Marine services giant Swire Pacific Offshore (SPO) has suffered a Clop ransomware attack that allowed threat actors to steal company data. Swire Pacific Offshore discovered an unauthorized network infiltration onto its IT systems, resulting in the compromise of some employee data. "Swire Pacific Offshore (SPO) has discovered that it was the target of a cyberattack which involved unauthorised access to its IT systems," Swire Pacific Offshore said in a statement to BleepingComputer. Months-long Interpol crackdown nets more than 1,000 online fraud arrests

An Interpol operation to combat online fraud concluded with the arrests of 1,003 people and the interception of $27 million in illicit funds, according to the international police organization, which conducted the crackdown alongside 20 countries. Waged from June to September of this year, "Operation HAECHI-II" targeted online crime like romance scams, investment fraud and money laundering associated with illegal online gambling. READ MORE...

Why Omicron quickly became a variant of concern

On Friday, the World Health Organization officially named a new version of the SARS-CoV-2 virus a variant of concern and attached the Greek letter omicron to the designation. The Omicron variant is notable for the sheer number of mutations in the spike protein of the virus. While Omicron appears to have started spreading in Africa, it has already appeared in European countries like Belgium and the UK, which are working to limit its spread through surveillance and contact tracing.
