Security company ADT announces security breach of customer data

Electronic surveillance equipment provider ADT filed a form 8-K with the Security and Exchange Commision (SEC) to report "a cybersecurity incident during which unauthorized actors illegally accessed certain databases containing ADT customer order information." Hackers leak 2.7 billion data records with Social Security numbers

Almost 2.7 billion records of personal information for people in the United States were leaked on a hacking forum, exposing names, social security numbers, all known physical addresses, and possible aliases. The data allegedly comes from National Public Data, a company that collects and sells access to personal data for use in background checks, to obtain criminal records, and for private investigators. LoanDepot reports net loss as cyber-related settlement hit Q2 financial results

LoanDepot reported a net loss of $65.9 million during the second quarter, as its financial results were weighed down by the continuing impacts of a January ransomware attack. The California-based lending firm took about $37 million in non-operational charges, including a $27 million charge in connection with the attack, used mainly to settle a class action lawsuit. LoanDepot said for the first half of 2024 it incurred more than $41 million in expenses related to the attack. READ MORE...

The BlackSuit ransomware gang has demanded over $500 million since 2022

A notorious ransomware group has demanded more than half a billion dollars from victims in less than two years. That staggering statistic has been made public in an update to a joint advisory issued by the US Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Agency (CISA) and the FBI, warning organisations about the threat posed by the BlackSuit gang. Chinese hacking groups target Russian government, IT firms

A series of targeted cyberattacks that started at the end of July 2024, targeting dozens of systems used in Russian government organizations and IT companies, are linked to Chinese hackers of the APT31 and APT 27 groups. Kaspersky, who discovered the activity, dubbed the campaign "EastWind," reporting that it employs an updated version of the CloudSorcerer backdoor spotted in a similar cyberespionage campaign from May 2024, also targeting Russian government entities. Former President Donald Trump's presidential campaign said Saturday that it has been hacked and suggested Iranian actors were involved in stealing and distributing sensitive internal documents. The campaign provided no specific evidence of Iran's involvement, but the claim comes a day after Microsoft issued a report detailing foreign agents' attempts to interfere in the U.S. campaign in 2024.
