Interpol cybercrime crackdown nets 5,800 arrests across 97 countries

Authorities arrested more than 5,800 alleged cybercriminals and seized $293 million in a global operation targeting social-engineering scams and money laundering across 97 countries, Interpol said Thursday. The anti-fraud crackdown, dubbed Operation First Light, identified more than 142,000 victims, including people, businesses and governments, officials said. Microsoft warns customers AI will mean busier Patch Tuesdays

Microsoft has warned customers to expect more security patches for the foreseeable future, thanks to AI. "As AI helps defenders discover more issues, customers will see a higher volume of security updates included in each security release," the company's executive veep for Windows + Devices, Pavan Davuluri, wrote in a Thursday post that describes how Microsoft is changing its internal processes to spot software vulnerabilities using AI. July 2026 Patch Tuesday forecast: Is CVE tracking still practical?

I was off by a month in my forecast of record-setting CVE releases from Microsoft. In June, we saw the deluge of over 200 reported CVEs that I expected in May. There were 116 CVEs for Windows 11 and 104 for Windows 10. In addition, we saw large numbers in both common applications like Office and SharePoint Server as well as the host of development tools and libraries like Visual Studio and .NET. Two Chrome updates in two days fix critical vulnerabilities

Updating Chrome is becoming an almost daily task lately. But it's too important to ignore. On Wednesday, July 8, Google released another Chrome update, just one day later after the previous one. Between them, the two updates fixed 27 security vulnerabilities, including two critical flaws that could be exploited to compromise Chrome. Former DigitalMint ransomware negotiator who duped clients sentenced to 70 months in jail

Aformer ransomware negotiator for DigitalMint was sentenced to 70 months in jail for deceiving his employer's clients and conspiring with ransomware affiliates to extort a combined $75.3 million from five U.S. companies he was entrusted to aid during their moments of extreme crisis, the Justice Department said Thursday. GigaWiper Combines Multiple Malware for System-Level Sabotage

For over eight months, a threat actor has been using a destructive backdoor and wiper that has multiple system-level sabotage capabilities, Microsoft reports. Dubbed GigaWiper, the malware is a sophisticated Go-based backdoor that consists of multiple malware families and robust command-and-control (C&C) capabilities. Palo Alto Networks Patches 13 Vulnerabilities

Palo Alto Networks on Wednesday published advisories describing more than a dozen vulnerabilities affecting its products. The new advisories cover 13 vulnerabilities specific to Palo Alto Networks products, as well as more than 500 flaws patched recently by Google in Chromium, which the cybersecurity giant uses for its Prisma browser.
